Jillian M. Lloyd, MD

Assistant Professor
Division of Surgical Oncology

Research Focus

Dr. Lloyd recently formed a collaborative research group between the Divisions of Surgical Oncology and Integrative Medicine at University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) and the Departments of Nursing and Psychology at UTK. Her group is working to identify psychosocial factors associated with patient outcomes for women with estrogen-receptor positive tumors of the breast. Specifically, she is interested in exploring not only the patients' emotional and stress- related status throughout her cancer journey, but also the impact of the primary caregiver's status. Dr. Lloyd and her research team hypothesize that the relationship between the patient and her primary caregiver has an impact on the patient's health-related outcomes including medication adherence, mortality, recurrence, and health related quality of life. They hope to identify psychosocial risk factors that can be used to predict adverse health outcomes and then develop interventions designed to address those factors at the time of diagnosis.
