Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship

Curriculum

First Year (PGY5)

The first year of fellowship focuses on clinical experience with rotations in outpatient and in-patient high-risk obstetrics, prenatal diagnosis, and genetics. Specific opportunities to develop research questions and meet with faculty mentors are included in the first year. First year fellows participate in the UTGSM Annual First Year Fellow Research Boot Camp, attend the Wake Forest MFM Fellow Boot Camp, and the SMFM First Year Fellow Retreat.

Second Year (PGY6)

The majority of the second year is focused on research. Fellows can take courses on-site from Graduate School of Medicine faculty or take courses from the University of Tennessee’s main campus. Second year fellows are required to complete a two-part online genetics course. Second year fellows are encouraged to attend GOHO Ultrasound Course and Wake Forest MFM Fellow Boot Camp.

Third Year (PGY7)

The third year is focused on both clinical and research with experiences individualized to the specific fellow needs to prepare for future endeavors. The third-year fellow is required to defend their thesis to the MFM Division, thesis committee, and/or research faculty. Third year fellows can elect to attend the Critical Care in Obstetrics course hosted by Banner Health. In July, they may also have diminished hours to accommodate preparation for the ABOG Subspecialty Qualifying Examination.
