Dr. Jeffrey Peeke Named Radiology Chairman

Jeffrey Peeke, MD, has been named Chair of the Department of Radiology, effective July 15. He has served as Interim Chair since December 2017 and has been a member of the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine faculty since 2007. Dr. Peeke is an alumnus of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency at the UT Graduate School of Medicine. As a resident, he received the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Roentgen Resident Research Award and twice won the Howard Gould Clinical Excellence Award.

Dr. Peeke received his medical education at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He completed a Transitional Year Internship at UTGSM in 2002. Following residency, he completed a Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship at University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore before returning to Knoxville.

The Department of Radiology, performing more than 360,000 exams each year and staffed by over 40 radiologists, has a rich history of providing high quality imaging services to patients in the region while at the same time educating future radiologists and advancing imaging related research interests. Since being re-established in 1988, the residency program has graduated 141 physicians who now practice in private and academic radiology groups throughout the United States. The Molecular Imaging and Translational Research Program is central to the department's research activities and, pursuing advanced investigation in the area of PET-CT imaging, has generated more than 20 publications, numerous scientific presentations, and at least one patent in recent years. As Chair, Dr. Peeke said, "I am excited to be given the opportunity to build upon the many noteworthy accomplishments of past leaders to further the academic mission on campus."

UT Graduate School of Medicine Dean Paul Hauptman said, "Dr. Peeke has provided excellent leadership and is highly respected by his colleagues. We have high hopes for his tenure and are delighted that after an internal search we are able to remove the term 'Interim' from his title.

"I would like to acknowledge Dr. Michael Freeman, Chairman of the Department of Surgery, who led the search committee as well as the other committee members for their efforts on behalf of the GSM."
