Dr. Eric Heidel Receives PStat Certification

Eric Heidel, PhD, Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Research, received notification from the American Statistical Association (ASA) that he meets the requirements for becoming an Accredited Professional Statistician. The accreditation demonstrates recognition from the ASA that Dr. Heidel has the education, experience, and competence to be considered a professional statistician and provides assurance to his peers and colleagues related to his statistical practice.

Dr. Heidel began working at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine (UTGSM) in 2008, first as a Graduate Assistant and then as a research design and statistical consultant while he pursued advanced studies. In 2012, he was awarded a PhD in Counselor Education with a Graduate Certification in Evaluation, Statistics, and Measurement, an Intercollegiate Graduate Minor in Statistics, and the Yates Dissertation Fellowship. Dr. Heidel then joined UTGSM faculty in the Department of Surgery as a biostatistician. Dr. Heidel now has over 120 published articles in peer-reviewed journals and over 180 abstracts presented at local, state, regional, national, and international conferences. He provides statistical consultation to residents, fellows, faculty, physicians, and staff at the UTGSM and The University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC). He also teaches a five-part curriculum focused on applied research and statistics to faculty and trainees in numerous clinical departments at UTGSM.
