Patrick O. McConville, MD Named Interim Chair of Anesthesiology

The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine has named Patrick O. McConville, MD, Associate Professor, as Interim Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology effective October 17, 2022.

“Dr. McConville clearly has a heart for education and a head for leadership, thus I am confident he will excel in this new role and lead the Department of Anesthesiology to new heights”, said Dr. Robert M. Craft, Interim Dean of the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine.

Dr. McConville, a graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine, completed his residency training in anesthesiology at the UT Graduate School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in obstetric anesthesia at Wake Forest University. Dr. McConville joined the faculty of the Department of Anesthesiology in 2010 and has distinguished himself as an educator and physician leader for over a decade. He has served as the Department of Anesthesiology Residency Program Director and Vice-Chair of Education since 2017, and has been honored for teaching excellence six times, including five by the department and once by the GSM. Dr. McConville has authored 8 book chapters, presented broadly at both regional and national professional meetings, and serves as an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. He was also selected as a member of the UTGSM Academy of Scholars, the UTHSC Faculty Senate and the UTGSM Academic Advancement, Promotion and Tenure Committee. In addition to his many roles in graduate medical education, Dr. McConville has also served as President of the Tennessee Society of Anesthesiologists, board member for the Knoxville Academy of Medicine, and currently as the UTMC Chief of Staff.

“I look forward to continue enhancement of the educational, clinical, and research aspects of the department in alignment with the UTGSM, UHS, and communities that we serve,” said Dr. McConville.
