Dr. Matthew Mancini Elected to Endocrine Surgeons Membership Committee

Matthew L. Mancini, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery, was elected to the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons Membership Committee, Council and the association as a whole. Membership is limited to surgeons who are Fellows of the American College of Surgeons or its international equivalent and of good professional standing; who have a major interest and devote significant portions of their practice or research to endocrine surgery; and who are certified by the American Board of Surgery or its equivalent in Canada, Central America, Mexico and South America.


Dr. Craft Elected to Perioperative Outcomes Executive Board

Robert Craft, MD, Chair, Anesthesiology, has been elected to a three-year term for the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group. According to MPOG, it formed in 2008 to develop the necessary policies, procedures, and technical infrastructure required for multicenter perioperative outcomes research. Currently, MPOG is a consortium of 56 medical centers aggregating large volumes of observational inpatient electronic health record (EHR) data, patient reported outcomes, and long term administrative outcomes. MPOG has already extracted, transformed, and semantically mapped more than 4.5 million cases with 3 million distinct patient records from 28 different medical centers across the US and Europe using distinct EHR products. MPOG publishes data in high impact clinical journals and informatics forums such as the electronic data methods forum sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.


Dr. Karlstad Joins Shock Trauma Committee

Michael Karlstad, PhD, Professor and Director of Surgery's Division of Trauma and Critical Care Laboratory, has been selected to serve on the Council of the Shock Society and serve on their editorial board and serve as the Chair of the Publications Committee. The Shock Society works to improve the care fo victims of shock, trauma and sepsis through clinically relevant research, promotion of education, and providing a multidisciplinary forum to integrate and disseminate new knowledge in trauma, shock and sepsis.
