UTCOM Celebrates GHHS Solidarity Day for Compassionate Patient Care

The third annual Gold Humanism Honor Society Day for Compassionate Patient Care is today, February 14, and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine campuses in Memphis, Knoxville and Chattanooga join approximately 70 medical schools nationwide to observe this day created in honor of Randall Friese, MD, the trauma surgeon who first treated Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords following the 2011 shooting in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Friese said that the most important thing he did for her in the ER was to take her hand and tell her that she would be cared for. On this day, the GHHS celebrates compassionate patient care.

As a sign of appreciation to the healthcare workers on all of the UT Health Science Center College of Medicine campuses, please come by the Student Affairs Office (GSM building, third floor) to enjoy a treat and get a Solidarity Day button to wear. A poster has been prepared with a statement about the event with space to permit individuals to list names of healthcare workers and write brief statements about how they demonstrate these values. For more information, contact Student Affairs.
