UT Center for Advanced Medical Simulation Earns Re-Accreditation

The University of Tennessee Center for Advanced Medical Simulation (UTCAMS) has been reaccredited until 2023 as a comprehensive Accredited Education Institute (AEI) by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Since earning its initial accreditation in 2012, UTCAMS remains the only facility in Tennessee and 1 of 92 centers in the world to be accredited by the ACS as a Level I Comprehensive AEI.

Dr. Keith Gray Named Chief Medical Officer of UT Medical Center

The University of Tennessee Medical Center has named Keith Gray, MD, MBA, Associate Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology, as its next Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer effective March 1 following the retirement of Jerry Epps, MD, former Chair of Anesthesiology.

Dr. James Shamiyeh Named Chief Quality Officer at UT Medical Center

James Shamiyeh, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, will become Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer of The University of Tennessee Medical Center. Dr. Shamiyeh, who joined the medical center in 2005 as a pulmonary and critical care medicine physician, most recently served as medical director of the organization’s Heart Lung Vascular Institute. His new position starts March 1.

New Grant Champions Contraceptive Access

The University of Tennessee Medical Center is helping women obtain better access to long-term family planning protocols, particularly immediately postpartum. Nikki Zite, MD, Professor and Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program Director, has been awarded a grant from the National Institute of Reproductive Health to help women gain better access to long-acting reversible contraception (LARC).
