Mornings Non-Clinical Time (15-20 hours per week)
Afternoons Clinical Work (40-45 hours per week)
Most mornings will start 6:45-7:00 am. There will be some flexibility depending on how the Non-Clinical Time is utilized based on the fellow's interests. Clinical work will usually run until 5:00 pm most afternoons. There will not be any call, weekend, or night clinical work requirements. The PEMBA program includes online distance learning sessions of three-hour duration on most Saturday mornings (January-December) as well as four separate week-long residence periods hosted on-site on the business school campus. These requirements are factored into the Non-Clinical Time work load.
At the University of Tennessee Center for Advanced Medical Simulation (UTCAMS), physicians, students, and other members of the healthcare team attain not only improvement in individual skills, but also learn and practice team skills that are essential for patient safety. This type of multi-faceted, orchestrated training improves critical thinking, decision making, and clinical techniques - all without imparting risk to a real patient.
