Obstetrics and Gynecology
OBG2-3010/F JI ANY - SENIOR CLERKSHIP IN OBSTETRICS - KNOX

This clerkship in obstetrics allows the senior medical student to attend all obstetrical clinics, including high risk clinics. During this time the student will work closely with a senior resident or staff member to gain greater insight into the management of difficult obstetrical problems. On non-clinic days and while on call, the student will participate by assisting in labor and delivery activities such as spontaneous vaginal deliveries, forcep deliveries, postpartum tubal ligations and cesarean sections. The senior medical student will be on call every fourth night. Attendance at the resident didactic series will be expected.

The purpose of this elective is to help the student gain greater insight into the specialty. Emphasis is on management of medical complications, fetal and biochemical monitoring. Close faculty contact provides exposure to the most recent advances in detection, prevention, and treatment of premature labor; the latest techniques in intrapartum management, and newest imaging techniques. Students performance of procedures will be directly supervised by residents or faculty. Each day the student will participate in high-risk rounds, there will be a weekly OB conference and conferences in pathology and endocrine. Grand rounds will be each Friday.
OBG2-4019/F OB/GYN ENDOCRINOLOGY-KNOX

The purpose of this elective is to introduce the student to disease of the reproductive endocrine system, its diagnosis and management by combining selected clinical experience and material with an introduction to relevant research in one aspect of endocrinology. Students may spend part of their time on the clinical service, and part of their time in the laboratory, or in both settings. The clinical orientation will involve direct patient evaluation and care under the direction of the attending faculty.

The purpose of this elective is to provide the student contemplating a career in Obstetrics/Gynecology the opportunity to gain greater insight into the specialty with an emphasis on gynecologic oncology.
