Nuclear Medicine Residency Program
PET Fellowship

The PET Fellowship at UTGSM is offered as a supplemental year of training for individuals who have completed their nuclear medicine or nuclear radiology training program. UTMC performs PET for all approved applications and has an active PET and PET/CT research program.

Facilities at UTMC include a Siemens 16-slice CT/PET scanner and a state-of-art CPS/Siemens 6-slice PET/CT scanner in addition to a fully functioning clinical nuclear medicine section. Radiopharmaceuticals routinely used for clinical PET imaging at UTMC include F-18 FDG and Rb-82. Numerous other tracers are used for research applications, including F-18 fluoro-boronophenylalanine, C-11 aminocyclobutane carboxylate, and Ga-68 EDTA.

PET fellows will receive didactic instruction in the principles of PET and PET/CT for oncology, neurology, and cardiology applications. Fellows are expected to become proficient in all aspects of clinical PET and PET/CT imaging. They also are expected to stay active in routine clinical nuclear medicine imaging and therapy procedures. Fellows participate in home-based night call for nuclear medicine, not to exceed one in four nights and weekends. There is a potential opportunity for PET fellows to “sunlight” for nuclear cardiology call with faculty backup. Fellows are expected to participate in clinical research projects related to PET and PET/CT imaging.

This is not an ACGME approved fellowship.
