Study by Dr. Zite on Sterilization Consent Form Literacy Garners Attention
A study by Nikki Zite, MD, Associate Professor and Residency Program Director in Obstetrics and Gynecology, on the comprehension of women using TennCare who sign the consent form for tubal sterilization shows the form is written at a reading level too difficult for most patients to understand. As a result, TennCare staff have asked for a copy of Dr. Zite's modified consent form to see if it can be utilized to help women better understand the guidelines and procedure.

Nikki Zite, MD, Residency Program Director and Associate Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology, won a Blue Ribbon Award at a national annual meeting for her research, "Women's Ability to Comprehend the Medicaid-Title XIX Sterilization Consent Form: A RCT."

Ob/Gyn Resident Awarded First Place at Resident Research Day
Dean James J. Neutens, Ph.D., presented awards to residents and fellows who participated in the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine and Academy of Scholars Committee Resident Research Day and Fellows' Research Day. Events were coordinated by William Metheny, Ph.D., Assistant Dean, Graduate Medical and Dental Education.
First place went to L. David Moore, M.D. resident in Obstetrics and Gynecology, for his paper entitled "A Novel Method for Simulating Third Degree Lacerations Using Chicken Thighs." Contributors were Jaclyn van Nes, M.D. and Nikki Zite, M.D., M.P.H.
