Curriculum
PGY-1
The intern
year comprises nine months within the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology and three months in other departments. 3 1/2 months are
spent on the obstetrics service, 2 1/2 months on the gynecology
service and 2 months of night float. The additional month of OB/GYN
is reserved for ultrasound and entry-level oncology experience.
Outside the department, the intern spends one month in each of the
following rotations: medical intensive care, emergency department,
and inpatient family medicine for a total of 12 months.
PGY-2
During
the second year, 11 months are spent in obstetrics and gynecology,
including subspecialties in gynecologic oncology (one month) and
endocrinology (one month). External to the department, each resident
spends one month in the Department of Family Medicine/Outpatient
which includes a weekly geriatric clinic.

PGY-3
The third year of residency carries greater responsibilities as the resident may function as the "senior on service." The entire year is spent in obstetrics and gynecology, including subspecialties (gynecologic oncology and endocrinology/infertility).
PGY-4
In the final year of the program, all rotations are in obstetrics and gynecology, including two months of gynecologic oncology, one month in endocrinology/infertility, and one month in urogynecology.
Experience in perinatology occurs at all educational levels during the obstetrics rotations.
The University of Tennessee Medical Center is the site for all rotations.
