Celebrate Medical Librarians Month and 20 Years of CAPHIS in October

CAPHIS

Preston Medical Library has festivities planned throughout October to celebrate National Medical Librarians Month, as designated by the Medical Library Association, and promote 20 years of service for its Consumer and Patient Health Information Service (CAPHIS).

Plans include

October 5 and 7: "Prescription for Success", a free class for consumers to find reliable health information on the Web, will be taught by Martha Earl, Assistant Professor.

October 7: "My NCBI on PubMed," 12-12:30 p.m., Preston Training Room, is a class for GSM and University of Tennessee Medical Center employees to learn to use the My NCBI feature on PubMed, making research easier. Learn how to set up an account, highlight search terms, save searches, and have search results periodically sent via e-mail or available on RSS. Lunch is welcome.

October 12-14: An information table will be in the hospital across from the gift shop to promote CAPHIS to health professionals, patients and family members.

October 14: "Finding E-Journals," 12:00-12:30 p.m., Preston Training Room, is a class for GSM and University of Tennessee Medical Center employees to find Preston and UTK full-text journals online. UT NetID and password are required for access to some journals. Lunch is welcome.

October 21: "Creating Posters in PowerPoint," 12:00-12:30 p.m., Preston Training Room, is a class for GSM and University of Tennessee Medical Center employees. Lunch is welcome.
