Anesthesiology Honors Teaching Excellence
Anesthesiology graduated six residents in June and presented awards for Excellence in Teaching to Daniel Bustamante, MD, and Kip Robinson, MD.

Dentistry Recognizes Graduates
UTGSM Dentistry Class of 2012Dentistry held a banquet for faculty and residents June 24, honoring its three graduates: Andrea Cox, DDS, Nicole Barnett, DMD, and Kathryn Sumner, DDS.

Family Medicine Awards Residents, Faculty, Staff
UTGSM Family Medicine 2012Family Medicine held a graduation ceremony June 29, presenting awards to residents, faculty and staff, including Ryan Unger, MD; Julie Kafka, MD; Steven Mugleston, MD; Irfan Asif, MD; Amy Keenum, DO, PharmD; Larry Rodgers, MD; Timothy Willen, EMT; and Sue Valicenti-Dosch.

Medicine Presents the Freeman Rawson Award
Medicine held an awards and graduation reception in June to honor residents and fellows in Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Pulmonary Disease programs. The Freeman Rawson award was presented to Benjamin Helms, DO, and Shane Kelley, MD.

Obstetrics and Gynecology Distinguishes Teaching and Research
OBGYNObstetrics and Gynecology held an awards banquet June 16 to honor graduating residents and recognize excellence in teaching and research. Award recipients include Kimberly Hopkins, MD; Kristen Sorensen, MD; Karen Leigh Samples, MD; Erinn Morgan, MD; Melissa Rodgers, MD; Pleas Copas, Jr, MD; Jo Kendrick, RNC, MSN; Nirmala Upadhyaya, MD; and Nikki Zite, MD.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Celebrates Graduates
UTGSM OMFS 2012Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery held a graduation reception June 23 to recognize its graduating residents and fellow. Bruce Pearl, former UT Vols basketball coach delivered the motivational address.

Pathology Awards Research and Teaching
UTGSM Pathology Residents Pathology held the eighth annual Pathology Resident Research Day May 14 and presented awards to residents and faculty. There were a total of seven platform presentations given by the Pathology residents. Awards were presented to Marcus Winkler, DO, N. Lynn Ferguson, MD, Lucy DeFanti, DO, Alan Grindstaff, MD, and Chris Clark, MD.

Radiology Recognizes Faculty and Residents
UTGSM Radiology Class of 2012The Radiology Residency Program held its 20th Annual Awards Banquet June 8 to honor graduating seniors and recognize residents and faculty. Award winners are Austin Bourgeois, MD, Amanda Ingram, MD, Ted Chang, MD, Peter Petruzzi, MD and James Boyd, MD.

UTGSM Dr. Valerie Sams and Dr. Mitchell GoldmanSurgery held its 21st Annual Resident Research Day and presented awards that evening during the 29th Annual Chief Residents' Dinner. Matthew Jones, MD, Melissa Phillips, MD, Stephen Pacifico, MD, and Mariah Alexander, MD.

Dean Neutens reflects on the accomplishments of our residents, faculty and staff as well as commends the University of Tennessee Medical Center for its rankings in the US News and World Reports "America's Best Hospitals" report.

Employees Recognized for Excellence
UTGSM Employee Excellence Awards 2012The Graduate School of Medicine recently honored employees with the sixth annual Employee Excellence Awards program. Residents and Fellows Recognized for Outstanding Research
UTGSM Resident Research Day Winner 2012 William Metheny, PhD, Assistant Dean, Graduate Medical and Dental Education, presented awards to residents and fellows who participated in the annual UT Graduate School of Medicine Academy of Scholars Resident and Fellow Research Day. Awards were presented to N. Lynn Ferguson, MD, Chandler Long, MD, W. Jeremy Mahlow, MD, Ted Chang, MD, and Andrea Cox, DDS.

UTGSM Graduates Impact the Community
UTGSMThe UT Graduate School of Medicine graduated 70 residents and fellows from 19 programs this year. Several graduates have chosen to advance their skills in a GSM residency or fellowship program. Others will commence their medical careers in the private and public sectors, impacting our community through patient care as well as education and research.
