Family Medicine held a graduation ceremony June 25, presenting awards to residents, faculty and staff: Luke Chesney, MD, Obaydah AbdurRaqeeb, DO, Chase Wilson, MD, Dan Brewer, MD, Becky Morgan, MD, Beth Carroll, Lucky Morton, and Lynn Lowery.
Medicine Honors Residents, Fellows, Faculty
Medicine held an awards and graduation reception June 11 to honor residents and fellows in Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Pulmonary Disease programs. The Freeman Rawson award was presented to Jeremiah Bivins, MD, and Benjamin Helms, DO. Faculty award winners for 2010-2011 are Paul Branca, MD, Timothy Panella, MD, and William Paulsen, MD.
Obstetrics and Gynecology Distinguishes Teaching and Research
Obstetrics and Gynecology held an awards banquet to honor graduating residents and recognize excellence in teaching and research. Award recipients include Kristopher Kimball, MD, Craig Towers, MD, Walter Schoutko, MD, Audrey Barry, MD, Jodi Berendzen, MD, and Karen Leigh Samples, MD.
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Congratulates Residents and Fellow
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery held a graduation reception June 25 to recognize its graduating residents and fellow. Vallie Collins, "Miracle on the Hudson" US Airways Flight 1549 survivor, delivered the motivational address.
Pathology Recognizes Research
Pathology held the seventh annual Pathology Resident Research Day May 23 and presented awards to residents and faculty. There were a total of nine platform presentations given by six of the pathology residents. New this year, awards were given for "Case of the Month" Web Case Presentations. Award winners are Brett Hendrickson, MD, Jeremy Bigge, DO, George Sneed, DO, Alan Grindstaff, MD, Chris Clark, MD, Lisa Duncan, MD.
Radiology Awards Faculty and Residents
The Radiology Residency Program held its 19th Annual Awards Banquet June 10 to honor graduating seniors and recognize residents and faculty. Award winners are Jason Hill, MD, Jake Pirkle, MD, James Boyd, MD, J. Mark McKinney, MD.

The eighth annual Faculty Awards were presented by Dean Neutens and Associate Dean Eddie Moore, MD, to Jonathan Wall, PhD, Deidra Mountain, PhD, John Dougherty, MD, Ronald Lands, MD, Scott Stevens, MD, and Tom Thompson, MD, at the Resident Dinner and Faculty Awards Presentation.
Employees Receive Accolades for Excellence

Deans Award Exceptional Resident and Fellow Research
William Metheny, PhD, Assistant Dean, Graduate Medical and Dental Education, presented awards to residents and fellows who participated in the third annual UT Graduate School of Medicine Academy of Scholars Resident Research Day and second annual Fellow Research Day. Awards were presented to Ryan Owen, MD, Robert Thurman, MD, Brigitte Messenger, MD, Valerie Sams, MD, Marvin Monty Smith, MD (with Kevin Liaw, MD), Naomi Lynn Ferguson, MD, Joshua Arnold, MD, Christy Lawson, MD, and William Mahlow, MD.
Graduates Exemplify the GSM Mission
The UT Graduate School of Medicine graduated 70 residents and fellows from 18 programs. Several graduates have chosen to advance their skills in a GSM residency or fellowship program. Others will commence their medical careers in the private and public sectors. Some physicians have chosen to be teachers and one will give service to the U.S. Air Force.

Dr. Stephens Wins CEM Research Symposium Award
Christopher Stephens, PhD, Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Regenerative Medicine Laboratory, won the Award of Excellence in the Research Assistant Professor Category at the Comparative and Experimental Medicine Public Health Research Symposium for his research, "Generation of Three-Dimensional Tissue Using Stem Cell Speeding of Polymeric Scaffolds."
Eric Heidel Receives 'Outstanding' Research Awards
Eric Heidel, MS NCC, Statistical Design and Research Consultant, Office of Education, Research and Development, received an Outstanding Student Researcher Award and an Outstanding Research Award at his UT Counselor Education Doctoral Program's annual awards ceremony.
