Anesthesiology Recognizes Teaching Excellence
Dr. McIlrath Anesthesiology graduated nine residents and presented awards for Excellence in Teaching to Jack Chavez, MD, and J. Russell Langdon, MD. Tim McIlrath, MD, also received a national traveling fellowship award.

Family Medicine Honors Residents, Faculty, Staff
2010 Family Medicine GraduatesFamily Medicine held a graduation ceremony June 26, presenting awards to residents, faculty and staff: James Tompkins, MD; Geetha Reddy, MD; Julie Jeter, MD; Humberto Rodriguez, MD; John Eaddy, MD; Jackie Horsley; Summer Rauton; and Nancy Smith.

Medicine Congratulates Residents and Fellows
Medicine Fellows Medicine held an awards and graduation reception June 4 to honor residents and fellows in Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Pulmonary Disease programs. The Freeman Rawson award was presented to Michael Carringer, MD, and Jeremiah Bivins, MD. Fellows honored include Gayathri Baljepally, MD; Rubinder Ruby, MD; Paramveer Bhugra, MD; and Kinnaresh Patel, MD.

Obstetrics and Gynecology Awards Teaching and Research
OBGYNObstetrics and Gynecology held an awards banquet to honor graduating residents and recognize excellence in teaching and research. Award recipients include Bobby Howard, MD; Mark Hennessy, MD; Pleas Copas, MD; Jo Kendrick, RNC, MSN; L. David Moore, MD; and Karen Horne, MD.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Recognizes Residents and Fellow
OMFSOral and Maxillofacial Surgery held a graduation reception June 24 to recognize its graduating residents and fellow. Dr. Joe Johnson, Chair, GSM Board of Visitors and President Emeritus, UT, delivered the motivational address.

Pathology Holds Research Day
Dr. Hendrickson Pathology held the sixth annual Pathology Resident Research Day June 14 with awards being presented at a graduation banquet. Award recipients include Brett Hendrickson, MD; Alan Grindstaff, MD; and Chris Clark, MD.

Radiology Honors Faculty and Residents
Radiology The Radiology Residency Program held its annual awards banquet June 11. Radiology graduated six residents, all successfully passing the American Board of Radiology exam. Karen Wells, MD, who will join Graduate School of Medicine faculty, was recognized for her research. Award winners are David Rossow, MD; Ken Rule, MD; and James Boyd, MD.

Surgery Awards Residents
Surgery Surgery held its 19th Annual Resident Research Day and presented awards that evening during the 27th Annual Chief Residents' Dinner. Award winners include Valerie Sam, MD; J. Fernando Aycinena, MD; Greg Mancini, MD; Clarence Sudderth; Khanjan Nagarsheth, MD; Daniel Alterman, MD; Lamar Mack, MD; and John Milligan, MD.

James J. Neutens, PhDJames J. Neutens, PhD, FASHA, welcomes Steve Schwab, MD, as the new Chancellor for the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He also congratulates all of our award winners for their contributions to the mission of the Graduate School of Medicine.

Dr. Steve Schwab Appointed Chancellor for UTHSC
Dr. Steve SchwabInterim UT President Jan Simek, PhD, recommended Steve Schwab, MD, as Chancellor for the UT Health Science Center, and the UT Board of Trustees approved the appointment June 24. Dr. Schwab has served as interim chancellor since October 1, 2009, concurrently with his position as executive dean.

Faculty Distinguished for Teaching and Research
The seventh annual Faculty Awards were presented by Dean Neutens to Eddie Moore, MD; George Kabalka, PhD; Robert Craft, MD; Mark Rasnake, MD; and Michael Henderson, MD, at the Resident Dinner and Faculty Awards Presentation.

Employees Honored for Excellence
Employee Excellence AwardsThe Graduate School of Medicine recently honored employees with the fourth annual Employee Excellence Awards program. Awards were presented to Patti Hamilton, Peggy Hull, Tim Willen and Shannon Campbell.

Residents and Fellows Lauded for Exceptional Research
Dean James J. Neutens, PhD, presented awards to residents and fellows who participated in the UT Graduate School of Medicine and Academy of Scholars Committee Resident Research Day and Fellows' Research Day. Events were coordinated by William Metheny, PhD, Assistant Dean, Graduate Medical and Dental Education. Awards were presented to L. David Moore, MD; Sabina Siddiqui, MD; George Sneed, DO; Karen Wells, MD; Jeffrey Ollis, MD; James Chalk, MD; Brad Cook, MD; Daniel Oreadi, DMD; and Benjamin England, MD.

Dr. Wells Wins CEM Research Symposium Award
Karen Wells, MD Karen Wells, MD, Nuclear Medicine Resident, won the Award of Excellence in the intern/resident category at the Comparative and Experimental Medicine and Public Health Research Symposium for her research, "Biodistribution of a Novel Radiolabeled Fibril-Reactive Monoclonal Antibody in Patients with Systemic Light Chain (AL) Amyloidosis."
