Pathology Hosts Visiting Professor Dr. Robert Young
Pathology hosted distinguished guest Robert H. Young, MD, FRCPath, on May 5-6. Dr. Young is currently Director of Gynecological and Urological Pathology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and is a Robert E Scully Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Young has written extensively on the morphologic features of ovarian and testicular cancer, several of the studies representing the largest reported experience with certain unusual neoplasms. He has also written papers on benign lesions that mimic cancer. Dr. Young has co-authored an "Atlas of Gynecological Pathology." He is also a co-author with Dr. Robert Scully of the 3rd Series Fascicle on "Tumors of the Ovary", and is a co-author with others for the works in the same fascicle series on "Tumors of the Testis" and "Tumors of the Prostate Gland" and related structures.
Dr. Young presented "Ovarian Tumors in the Young" at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Grand Rounds on May 5. He hosted two unknown slide sessions with Pathology residents and faculty, during which he reviewed some of the most interesting pathology cases gathered from his consultation files. Dr. Young also gave two pathology lectures entitled "Metastatic Tumors to the Ovary" and "Endometrioid Lesions of the Female Genital System and Beyond-a Review of Diverse Lesions Accounting for Numerous Diagnostic Problems" with the most recent updates important for everyday practice of gynecologic pathology. These lectures were attended by members of both the Pathology and Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as with several pathologists practicing in Knoxville area hospitals.
