2023 UTGSM Employees Recognized for Excellence

The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine celebrated the exceptional achievements of its employees with the 17th Annual Employee Excellence Awards program. Nominees were put forward by their peers and supervisors, highlighting their outstanding contributions in four categories: outstanding job performance, leadership, courtesy and customer service, and community service. This year's winners are Ginger Hildebrand (Performance), Jennifer Ferris (Leadership), Cindy Langley (Courtesy and Customer Service) and Cameron Watson (Community Service).

Excellence in Job Performance

Ginger Hildebrand is the recipient of the Excellence in Job Performance award for her outstanding contributions to the Department of Surgery and Urology. As the residency coordinator for General Surgery and Urology, Ginger plays a vital role in maintaining the programs' high standards. Her attention to detail, proactive approach, and dedication to resident well-being have made her an indispensable member of both departments.

Dr. Michael Freeman, Department of Surgery Chair, nominated Ginger and emphasized her exceptional work ethic, stating, "Ginger's exemplary performance, combined with her ethical values and dedication, make her a true role model within the Department of Surgery." Dr. Wesley White, Department of Urology Chair and Dr. James Lewis also added that Ginger’s work ethic is extraordinary, and she is both knowledgeable and dependable.

Excellence in Leadership

In the category of Excellence in Leadership, Jennifer Ferris shines as the Director of Research at UTGSM. In her role, Jennifer has shown remarkable dedication and passion for promoting research endeavors within our institution and beyond. Jennifer has had a profound impact on the research community at UTGSM through her efforts in growing the department, establishing standard operating procedures, and fostering collaboration.

Melissa Weaver, who nominated Jennifer, highlighted her determination and passion, stating, "Jennifer's enthusiasm and knowledge make her an invaluable asset to the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine."

Excellence in Courtesy and Customer Service

For Excellence in Courtesy and Customer Service, Cindy Langley stands out as an exceptional team member in the field of research. As the IRB Regulatory Specialist, Cindy goes above and beyond to assist investigators, faculty, and residents in navigating the complexities of research studies. Her patience, knowledge, and willingness to help have earned her the admiration and gratitude of those she supports.

Becky West, who nominated Cindy, expressed, "Cindy's extraordinary service, dedication, and expertise make her an invaluable asset to our institution. She consistently exhibits a reassuring and calming presence, ensuring that our researchers receive the guidance they need." Jennifer Ferris, Director of Research, also nominated Cindy, stated, “Cindy has always gone above and beyond in her role with the IRB."

Excellence in Community Service

Cameron Watson is the recipient of the Excellence in Community Service award for his remarkable contributions to the community. Alongside his role at the Preston Medical Library, Cameron has been a dedicated volunteer at Beardsley Farms for many years. By supporting this organization's mission of increasing food security and education in the Knoxville area, Cameron has shown an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those in need.

Abagail Pujol, who nominated Cameron, stated, "Cameron's dedication to our community aligns perfectly with his professional work at the library, and his efforts to expand his reach outside of the GSM truly deserves recognition."

Robert M. Craft, MD, Interim Dean stated, "This year’s staff award recipients truly exemplify the respective qualities for which they were recognized, and further demonstrate the incredible team that comprises the Graduate School of Medicine."
