Dean Names Assistant Dean Metheny as DIO

Dr. William MethenyDean James Neutens, PhD, at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine announced that William Metheny, PhD, Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical and Dental Education, has accepted the role as our Designated Institutional Official (DIO), which he has already assumed following the tenure of Eddie Moore, MD, Associate Dean ofMedical Education, in the position.  As DIO, Dr. Metheny is responsible for the oversight and accreditation of residency and fellowship programs sponsored by the institution.  He has done an excellent job throughout the transition, particularly with the CLER site visit. In addition, it fits well with his current position leading GMDE and our Graduate Medical/Dental Education Committee (GMDEC).

Dr. Moore held the role of DIO since its inception in 2002, serving as a great example to Dr. Metheny in the oversight and accreditation of residency and fellowship programs at GSM. Dr. Moore will continue his leadership of Undergraduate Medical Education, Continuing Medical Education, and the new Health Information Center (Preston Medical Library) as well as work with Dr. Metheny as needed. Dean Neutens thanks Dr. Moore for his stewardship as our inaugural DIO.
