Health Literacy Classes at Preston-- Register Today
On August 31 and September 1, Beth Westcott, of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, will bring her award winning classes on "Easy to Read Health and Wellness Materials: recognizing it, finding it, writing it, rewriting it" to the Preston Medical Library, UT Graduate School of Medicine, at UT Medical Center.
On August 31, Beth will teach a four hour class from 8:30 to 12:30. On September 1, she will teach the six hour version of the same class from 8:30 to 3:00. The four-hour course has some time for writing and a class list for networking, while the six-hour course has more time for writing, sharing, editing and networking.
Please contact the Preston Medical Library at 865-305-9525 or reply to this email to register for the class. Refreshments will be served. Registration is required.
The class description follows:
"Learn in a hands-on environment--in the large group and break-out groups, to create materials that get your health and wellness information across quickly and clearly. Bring some pieces you use or some information you need to be written in an easy-to-read manner. We'll review the disconnect between information providers and information seekers, the success of "plain language" initiatives and the importance of text, type, graphics, space and layout. During the workshop you will develop a piece of your own so you'll have new awareness, new skills, a new product and access to further resources. In this workshop you will also be provided brochure examples, SMOG and REALM tests, a webliography and links to other training."
Still have questons? Please call 305-9525 or email Martha Earl . A detailed class agenda is available upon request.
