UTGSM Faculty Awards Announced
The Dean's Office presented five research and teaching awards to recognize and honor deserving faculty members. Faculty members are nominated by their Department Chairs and the Dean, in conjunction with the Awards Committee, selected the recipients. The following faculty members were recognized:
GSM Spirit Award
Mitchell H. Goldman, M.D.
Excellence and Leadership in Basic Science Research
Ron B. Wetzel, Ph.D.
Excellence and Leadership in Clinical Research
Scott L. Stevens, M.D.
Excellence in Teaching Award
Daniel E. Brewer, M.D.
Excellence in Teaching Award (Volunteer Faculty)
Steven J. LoCascio, DDS
Each recipient received a commemorative plaque and $2000 for departmental travel. Permanent plaques listing annual recipients will be located in the Dean's conference room.

Special Research Seminar Scheduled
Eric Rubinstein, D.V.M., Ph.D., Team Leader, INSERM Unité 602, Hôpital Paul Brousse, Villejuif, France will present a seminar entitled: "Tetraspanins Spin Their Web" on Friday, June 25, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. in the Morrison's Conference Room. Everyone is invited.

Bioterrorism Conference Series Continued
Dr. Robert E. Morrison, Chief, Medical Services, Regional Medical Center, & Professor , University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis will be the next speaker at the Bioterrorism Teleconference being held at the UTGSM. His topic is "Time for a Booster Shot: Diagnostic Presenting Features of Infectious Diseases. " The event will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2004, in the Morrison's Conference Room at the UT Medical Center from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Please contact Bertha Jarnigan for more information. June 1, 2004
For Clarification: As reported on June 1 by WBIR, the Department of Anesthesiology's Residency Program in Memphis is closed. The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine, Knoxville's Anesthesiology Residency program remains open, fully accredited, and not affected by the situation in Memphis.
