Medicine Grand Rounds--Breast Cancer Update The Department of Medicine, UTGSM, invites everyone to attend the Grand Round Series, "Breast Cancer Update," presented by John L. Bell, MD, FACS, Professor, Department of Surgery. Dr. Bell will speak on Tuesday, April 10, 2007, from 8:00 - 9:00 am in the Morrison's Conference Room at UT Medical Center. Dr. Bell also serves as Director of the UT Medical Center's Cancer Institute. Session objectives include breast cancer epidemiology, risk factors, risk reduction, early detection and diagnosis/ treatment options. This is the 10th program in the 2006-2007 series. CME/CEU credit will be offered. No registration is required.

Surgery Grand Rounds
The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce that Mark C. Kelley, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, will speak on Thursday, March 29, 2007. The lecture will be held at 7:00 am in the Morrison's Conference Room of UT Medical Center. Dr. Kelley will speak on the topic "Treatment of High Risk Melanoma: Progress or Futility?" Dr. Kelley also serves at Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at Vanderbilt. Everyone is invited to attend.

Conference
to be held on Clinical Research Topics " Investigative News -- Clinical Trials on the Hot Seat" is the title of a conference to be held on Friday, February 23, 2007. All interested principal investigators, research staff, faculty, residents, Institutional Board Review (IRB) members, and administrators in the area are invited to attend this exciting research conference. The conference, sponsored by the UT Health Science Center's Office of Human Subject Protections, Chattanooga and Knoxville Campuses, will be held from 8:00 am until 11:30 am in the Wood Auditorium of the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Explore the medical, ethical and legal issues in this "case study" conference with video and live-panel discussions.
Learning Objectives for the conference include:
Panel I: What do research participants understand?
Panel II: Changing hats from 'doctor' to 'investigator.'

New Procedures for UTGSM Employees Regarding Computer Help Desk
The Graduate School of Medicine will begin processing Help Desk calls for all GSM employees effective February 1, 2007. GSM employees will no longer contact the UHS Help Desk for computer related support issues.
Please follow this procedure for initiating service:
1. Email gsmhelpdesk@mc.utmck.edu and explain in detail the technical issue.
Your request will automatically open a new work order. You will be emailed your work order number. Please keep this email to request progress updates.
2. For emergencies only, please call 305-8476. Emergencies are defined as network, electronic medical record (EMR), and billing system downtimes.
