This is a list of sites that provide information written for the patient and consumer. You may also contact the library for information through the Consumer Health Information Service or search the UT Libraries Catalog for books on Consumer Health held at Preston Medical Library. A list of general resources is at the bottom.
This is not intended to be a comprehensive list of consumer/patient health sites on the Internet.

A product of the American Academy of Family Physicians includes information for the public on a broad range of medical topics.
Cancer.gov
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) Launches Redesigned, One-Stop Cancer Resource Web Site! NCI says that Cancer.gov (http://cancer.gov ) is a dramatically improved, easy-to-navigate Web site, and a one-stop resource for cancer information. This includes PDQ (Physician Data Query) . PDQ is NCI's comprehensive cancer database. It contains peer-reviewed summaries on cancer treatment, screening, prevention, genetics, and supportive care; a registry of approximately 1,800 open and 12,000 closed cancer clinical trials from around the world; and directories of physicians, professionals who provide genetics services, and organizations that provide cancer care.

This service is dedicated to bringing patients and their families the latest news and information on cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention.

ClinicalTrials.gov
The U.S. National Institutes of Health , through its National Library of Medicine , has developed ClinicalTrials.gov to provide patients, family members and members of the public current information about clinical research studies.

The Dietary Supplements Labels Database
The National Library of Medicine has released a new resource focused on dietary supplements. The database iincludes information from the labels of over 2,000 brands of dietary supplements in the marketplace, including vitamins, minerals, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids, and other specialty supplements.

The file contains over 11 million citations dating back to the mid-1960's. Coverage is worldwide, but most records are from English-language sources or have English abstracts. Citations prior to the mid-1960s can be found in NLM's OLDMEDLINE database."
