Reading at home is necessary to prepare
for patient care the following day, to prepare for conference
presentations, and to reinforce the material presented during
the day. Each curricula area specifies the required minimal reading.
For the most part, the readings chosen are a broad overview of
the curricula area with special areas for exta reading provided.
Several of the curricula areas use on
line material or instructional DVD's for their required readings
or for extra teaching such as ECG interpretations.
Residents are required to choose a scholarly
project. Residents will have time to pick the project and teaching
on how to complete their project during a two week period of time
in May of PGY I. During this time, there will be no clinical responsibilities.
A two week period of non-clinical time is allocated in Feb of
PGY II for an Evidence Based Medicine course and continuation
of the scholarly project. The cumination of the project may take
the form of a presentation at grand rounds and hopefully an abstract,
poster, or paper.
