IM Residency Program

Curricular Venues - Grand Rounds

 

  1. Venue: Grand Rounds

  2. Location: Morrison’s conference room (UHS near the cafeteria); breakfast is provided

  3. Faculty: This conference is given by internal DOM faculty, with outside invited speakers one to two times per year and internal non-DOM faculty once per year.

  4. Schedule: Second Tuesday of each month at 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM

  5. Links to Curricular Area: This venue links to all curricula areas with each division hosting one Grand Rounds talk per year on a topic relevant to their specialty.

  6. Primary Goals: Grand Rounds is designed to provide clinically relevant education to DOM faculty, non-faculty physicians, residents, medical students, and pharmacy students. Each presentation covers a medicine topic in detail, with a focus on recent and significant advances in medical care. Speakers are to provide sufficient background information as to educate trainees, while also providing enough depth of knowledge as to provide a continuing medical education experience. It is the desire to create an interactive lecture with several different formats, including panel discussions, presentations with a patient, audience response systems, and field trips. CME credit is provided.

  7. Resources: Speakers supply relevant handouts to the audience. An audience response system is available for use. Morrison's conference room accommodates a wide variety of teaching styles and presentation formats. Many audio/visual systems are supported.

  8. Method of Resident Evaluation: Resident’s are required to attend, but will not be evaluated formally based on this venue.

  9. Method of Venue Evaluation: After every talk, the resident’s and faculty will evaluate the presentation. The organizers review the audience feedback after each event to improve the quality of the presentations. Once per year, the resident’s will evaluate the program in general and specifically the value of each venue.
