Working Out at the UT BubbleUT Athletic Facilities:

The hospital is just a few miles from the University of Tennessee main campus. Residents are entitled to the faculty rate ($144/year) for use of all recreational equipment. This extensive list can be found on the UTK web site. Included is the HPER building with tennis, racquetball, volleyball, two olympic swimming pools, wallyball, and free weight room. Also included is the "bubble" with 24,000 sq. ft. for aerobics and cardiovascular workout equipment.

UTRAUTRA:

The University of Tennessee resident's alliance is a social organization for the spouses of UT residents and fellows. They are a diverse group of mostly women- working moms, stay at home moms, career women, even students, that all share in the unique lifestyle of resident life. Take a look at their web site with many activities and smiling faces; they provide a place to connect, away from hospital life.

Preston Medical LibraryLibrary:

Libraries abound, residents frequently use Preston medical library (on site) as well as any of the nearby UTK main campus libraries.
Through the interlibrary loan program, the Memphis medical school library is also at hand. Via the Preston web site are e-Journals, medical search engine links and one of the most used sources of clinical information, Up-To-Date.

Cafeteria:

On site food is found at the AllSpice Cafe. You might think poorly of "hospital food," but there is a resident chef who cooks up a tasty meal. There are specialty areas such as the Pizza Shop, Specialty event area, Grill, Bakery, Salad and Sandwich shops. Residents receive an on call allowance and a 15% discount for the rest of the time.

Knoxville Knoxville:

A mid sized city with four beautiful seasons, excellent schools and plenty of activity, with a low cost of living (compare us to where you currently live). Available for your pleasure is the Clarence Brown Theatre, City Ballet, Cotton-Eyed Joe's country dance club (we have many other night clubs, this is one example), Knoxville Art Museum, or The Knoxville Zoo, Ijam's Nature park.....  Follow the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce link to review the many fun choices.

Great Smokies MountainsGreat Smoky Mountains:

For those with an outdoor mind set, East Tennessee offers about anything one would want. The most visited national park in the USA is at our doorstep, as are 4 different lakes, and many rivers. You can run, kayak, wake board, mountain bike, motocross, swim, scuba, tennis, golf, horseback ride, sunbathe (is that a sport?)......

Starbucks CoffeeCoffee Shop:

For the coffee snobs (who me?) we have a Starbucks in house. We say double espresso, frequently.

You have brains in your head.

You have feet in your shoes.

You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

You're on your own,

and you know what to do.

And you are the guy (gal)

   who'll decide where to go.
