Gifting and Bequests

UT Medical CenterThe University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine has a distinguished record of training physicians. The majority of these graduates have entered practice in the East Tennessee area. As a teaching hospital, the institution has had an important role in setting the standard of care and developing new and innovative care services for the patients served at the UT Medical Center.

Government funding for graduate medical education has been declining for some time and that trend seems likely to continue. Policies that have been instituted to reduce the cost of healthcare are certainly needed, but these policies seriously reduce the funds available for graduate medical education. Unlike the other campuses of The University of Tennessee, there are no appropriations for continuing the educational programs at the medical center.

If the Graduate School of Medicine is to continue the high quality of education, it needs the supplements of monetary gifts and bequests that can be supplied by those individuals who feel that they have benefited by the services provided by The University of Tennessee Medical Center.

There are two major gift funds that a donor may select:

The Department of Medicine Gift Fund

This fund supplements the available resources of the Department of Medicine to provide educational materials and opportunities to the residents and staff. The utilization of this fund is controlled by the Chairman of the Department of Medicine.

Alfred D. Beasley, MD

The Alfred D. Beasley Endowment

The Alfred D. Beasley Endowment benefits The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. It is in honor of Alfred Durant Beasley, M.D., Chairman of the Department of Medicine at UT Medical Center from 1967-1997. The funds will be administered by an Endowment Advisory Committee to the Chairman of the Department of Medicine. Funds can be used to meet needs in teaching, research, and patient care missions, especially those directed toward sustaining the highest ideals of medical profession.

Gifts may be made in a variety of ways such as cash, appreciated securities, real estate, or may be pledged over a number of years. Gifts to the endowment are considered charitable contributions to The University of Tennessee by the Internal Revenue Service and may qualify the membership in the university gift and recognition clubs and societies.
