UTMCK DOM Fellowship Programs
The Department of Medicine's
annual CQI process involves discussions with past graduates,
third and fourth year medical students, and a scan of the internal
and regional environments. We match this information with our Memphis,
Knoxville and departmental missions. Two years ago we obtained feedback
that specialty shortages in cardiology and pulmonary medicine would
soon occur, that medical students were interested in applying to
IM programs that had fellowship training available, and that our
campus had the talent and desire to create two outstanding IM fellowship
programs.
With this directive we
began the process of assembling the components of Cardiology and
Pulmonary fellowship programs. This year, we started a fully accredited
ACGME fellowship program in Cardiology with two fellows. The total
program will be three years duration with six total fellows. We
are pleased with the excellent work done by many individuals to
initiate this program and we feel the graduates will be of outstanding
caliber.
We are also pleased to
announce that full accrediation has recently been received by ACGME
for our Pulmonary Medicine fellowship and it is scheduled to begin
July 2008.
In addition to the above
two fellowships, the UT Family practice program hopes to start a
geriatrics fellowship program in 2008.
