Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Program

Pulmonary Disease Fellowship Program

The Department of Medicine's annual CQI process involves discussions with past graduates,  third and fourth year medical students, and a scan of the internal and regional environments. We match this information with our Memphis, Knoxville and departmental missions. Four years ago we obtained feedback that specialty shortages in cardiology and pulmonary medicine would soon occur, that medical students were interested in applying to IM programs that had fellowship training available, and that our campus had the talent and desire to create two outstanding IM fellowship programs.

With this directive we began the process of assembling the components of Cardiology and Pulmonary fellowship programs. In 2007, we started a fully accredited ACGME fellowship program in Cardiology with two fellows. The total program is three years duration with six total fellows. We are pleased with the excellent work done by many individuals to initiate this program.

The Pulmonary Medicine fellowship began in 2008. The total program is two years with a total of four fellows. Teaching invigorates our faculty and they have spent long hours preparing lectures and learning experiences for our new group of fellows.
