  5. Schedule: Weekday assignments will be one of the above MD’s for either an AM or PM clinic each day. Friday afternoon is designated for required reading and there is no night call. IM resident’s clinic is one afternoon per week. Residents are not expected to attend morning report, but are expected to attend noon lectures.
    AM clinic from 8:30 AM until noon
    PM clinic from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM

  6. Related Conferences/Venues: Three lectures will be given per 18 month ambulatory lecture series. These will be:
    Common hand problems – Dr. R. Smith
    Orthopedic emergencies – Dr. McCollum
    Osteoporosis related fractures and joint replacement – Dr. Eilerman

  7. Primary Goals: The resident should learn the basic musculoskeletal exam along with the evaluation and management of diseases of the major joints.

  8. Primary Objectives:
    Basic musculoskeletal exam
    Musculoskeletal radiology
    Splinting techniques
    Basic Fracture care
    Common orthopedic diagnosis per joint; this includes exam, evaluation, DDx and treatment of the spine, shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee, and foot

    Major joint aspiration – knee
    Select joint and bursa steroid injections – knee, shoulder, hip area, elbow

  12. Method of resident Evaluation: Either Dr. Eilerman or Dr. McCollum will complete the NI evaluation of the resident’s performance. Attendance will be monitored.

  13. Method of Curricula area program evaluation: Residents are asked to provide feedback to the supervisor in an informal manner during the course of the rotation. They will complete an evaluation form using New Innovations at the end of the rotation. Cumulative feedback to the Coordinator will be given by the Departmental Chair on an annual basis.
