Dr. Matteson is Associate Professor of Medical Genetics and Pathology, Director of the Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Laboratory and Co-Director of the UT Genetic Center. She is board certified in Clinical Biochemical Genetics and in Clinical Molecular Genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics. She is a Fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and Executive Director of the American Board of Medical Genetics.
Dr. Matteson received her undergraduate degree from Beloit College in Wisconsin, her Master's Degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and her PhD from the Medical College of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. Her Post-doctoral training in Medical Genetics was done at Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Genetics in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Matteson has been a faculty member of the Department of Medical Biology and Director of the Biochemical and Molecular Genetics Laboratory since 1986.
Dr. Matteson has served on a number of national committees that developed quality control standards and proficiency testing for molecular genetics diagnostic laboratories. She is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, The American College of Medical Genetics, and The Society for Inborn Metabolic Disorders.
Dr. Matteson's research interests include ancient DNA analysis (in collaboration with the UT Department of Anthropology) and development of new automated molecular testing techniques. Her clinical interests include the application of new testing capabilities to the molecular and biochemical diagnoses of genetic disorders.
