Ambulatory Clinic
The Harry H. Lyon, Sr. Family Medicine Center
The Harry H. Lyon, Sr. Family Medicine Center, named for a valued benefactor, is located adjacent to the University of Tennessee Medical Center . The center occupies the first floor of the Graduate School of Medicine and is operated as a modern private physicians' office with X-ray, Level II CLIA-approved laboratory, and the capability to perform multiple ambulatory procedures.
In addition to the faculty and family medicine residents, the center's staff includes a department administrator, administrative and support personnel, nurses, medical assistants, and a medical technician.
The Family Medicine Center patient visits number approximately 26,000 annually. Patients come from all age groups and all walks of life and present a diversity of problems. The department maintains one faculty for every four residents seeing patients in the center. Revenues for patient care help to support the center's continuing operation and ongoing improvement in the residency program.
Family Medicine Center patients are admitted to the Family Medicine Inpatient Service at The University of Tennessee Medical Center . Residents rotate on the inpatient service, supervised by full-time and community faculty, and manage hospital care. The patient's primary resident is encouraged to visit periodically while his or her patient is hospitalized.
The Family Medicine Department has five fellowship programs for resident graduates in Sports Medicine, Advanced Obstetrics, Emergency Medicine, Behavioral Medicine and Homeland Security.
University Occupational Health Services is also located in the center and is a part of the Preventive Medicine division of the Department of Family Medicine. University Occupational Health Services works with local client companies to provide medical services tailored to the specific needs of the company and their employees.
