Fellowships - Emergency Medicine
The Department of Family Medicine, in conjunction with the Departments of Emergency Medicine of the University of Tennessee Medical Center and East Tennessee Children's Hospital, has established a one year fellowship in Emergency Medicine. The fellowship is designed to provide a comprehensive experience that will enable the fellow to apply primary care medical training to the assessment, treatment and management of emergent and urgent medical illnesses and injuries in urban and rural practice settings.
The fellow will work under the auspices of faculty experienced in all aspects of Emergency Medicine in a busy tertiary emergency department as well as a busy pediatric hospital emergency department. Teaching from the text “Emergency Medicine, A Comprehensive Study Guide” by Tintinalli, et al, as well as teaching in procedures and formal presentation skills are included in the fellowship.
Eligibility
Fellows will be graduating or have graduated from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic Family Medicine residency. The fellow will work in the Emergency Departments of the University of Tennessee Medical Center and East Tennessee Children's Hospital, rotate on Trauma Surgery. The fellow additionally will learn advanced skills in intubation and emergency radiological interpretation. The fellow will operate at a PGY-4 level and will be under the supervision of faculty during the course of the fellowship.
