Obstructive sleep apnea can be a life-threatening condition. When all other forms of therapy have failed, orthognathic surgery correction may be needed.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this conference, participants will be able to improve their method of care by learning from the following course objectives:
Complete definitive diagnostic evaluations of a patient with obstructive sleep apnea, a patient with a transverse dentoskeletal deformity, and a child with obstructive sleep apnea with or without a craniofacial deformity.
Discuss a definitive algorithm for management of obstructive sleep apnea using both surgical and non-surgical methods of treatment.
Describe in detail the surgical techniques used to perform maxillomandibular advancement, to correct transverse dentoskeletal deformities through either conventional orthognathic surgery or distraction osteogenesis, and to correct obstructive sleep apnea and craniofacial deformities in children using distraction osteogenesis.
Discuss expected treatment outcomes of all procedures.
