What You Will Learn
Recent studies have shown clinicians often overestimate their adherence to national healthcare guidelines, particularly in the areas of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hypertension and myocardial infarction (MI). Failure to follow standard protocols can result in poor patient outcomes and higher costs.
The Heart, Lung, Vascular Update will give the primary care provider tools to better understand, evaluate and manage COPD, hypertension and myocardial infarction. Regional and national experts also will address the deficiency in adherence to national guidelines and demonstrate improved patient outcomes when guidelines are followed.
Learning Objectives
- Adhere to national guidelines on the management of COPD, hypertension and MI
- Appraise patients whose asthma and COPD are not adequately controlled
- Treat patients with hypertension according to guidelines, resulting in better control and fewer complications
- Employ targeted therapy for patients who have had an acute MI
- Prevent acute hospitalization by earlier intervention
- Analyze data to optimize drug therapy
- Identify drug interactions in cardiac patients
