Course Description

The goal of the ACLS Providers Course is to develop proficiency in ACLS skills. The lectures & case discussions are designed as a review of the American Heart Association, Advanced Cardiac Life Support text and addendum material. There is emphasis on causes of cardiac arrest, particularly abnormal heart rhythms. Previous Basic Life Support training is not required; however, you will be required to demonstrate proficiency in CPR and AED use. Your successful completion of ACLS depends upon completing and returning the pretest, a minimum score of 84% on the written evaluation, and demonstrated proficiency in the skills evaluation stations and ten core cases. You are responsible for studying the material in the textbook before attending any of the lectures, as much of the tested material cannot be presented during lecture time.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will be able to manage pre-arrest, peri-arrest and post-arrest conditions involved with cardiovascular (including stroke) emergencies. Emphasis is placed upon the first ten minutes of a ventricular fibrillation arrest. The student will also be able to manage an emergency airway for the patient.
