The John E. Sullivan, DDS Memorial Endowed Lecture was established at The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine by friends, colleagues, students and others to recognize Dr. Sullivan's contributions and his many years of dedicated patient care and devotion to teaching. Earnings from the endowment support visiting lecturers for the biennial Sullivan Lecture.
Registration fees for this educational conference are subsidized by the John E. Sullivan, DDS Memorial Endowed Lecture. Each attendee receives a subsidy from the endowment, which results in a greatly reduced registration fee.

With the goal of improving the quality of healthcare, The University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine Offi ce of Continuing Medical and Dental Education activities are offered to enhance the skills and knowledge of physicians, dentists, and other healthcare professionals at the local, state, regional and national levels.
At the conclusion of this program the participant
should be able to:
- Identify how forensic pathologists determine the
cause and manner of death in toxicologically positive cases.
- Identify the effects and side effects of the most commonly used pharmacological classes of medications.
- Determine how and why legitimate drugs are diverted and lead to dependency and addiction.
- Compare and contrast FDA approved drugs with herbs and supplements under the DSHEA law.
- Recognize significant autopsy findings in cases of death due to prescription medication and illicit drug abuse.
- Define purpose, possibilities and limitations of forensic autopsies and forensic toxicology.
- Describe the basic principles of pharmacology and therapeutics with emphasis on its impact on dental practice.
