Type 2 Diabetes in Youth and Adults: Challenges in Diagnosis and Management
Dear Diabetes conference participants, faculty and staff,
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow for our UT Diabetes Conference scheduled to begin at 8:00 am at the UT Conference Center on Henley Street in Knoxville, TN.
We know there is some concern about the weather tomorrow morning and it is our intention to hold this conference as scheduled. However, we know East Tennessee weather can be unpredictable, so here is the latest report:
Weather.com
Saturday morning … Rain and snow in the morning transitioning to snow showers in the afternoon. Cold. High 39F. Winds WNW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation 80%. A slushy accumulation of less than one inch. |
We will check the weather again tomorrow morning around 5:00 am ET. If we feel it is not safe to travel, we will send an e-mail to all participants by 6:00 am.
If you have any questions at all tomorrow morning, the UT Conference Center phone number is 865-974-0250 and someone will be there by 7:00 am - if the course is being held as planned.
Thank you for your attention,
Laura Maples

Is it an epidemic?
The World Health Organization estimates that by 2025, as many as 200-300 million people worldwide will have developed type 2 diabetes. This includes an alarming increase in diagnoses in children.
To stem this epidemic and reduce the instances of future complications, primary care providers and others must increase their knowledge, motivation and skill in delivering care to both youth and adults with type 2 diabetes.
