Overview

The decision-making process for primary care physicians and oncology healthcare professionals involved in the diagnosis, treatment and follow up of breast, colorectal, melanoma and gynecologic cancers is challenging.  An in-depth knowledge of current clinical and experimental data for the appropriate integration of new therapeutics into clinical practice is important to providers in all specialties.

This educational activity will provide up-to-date information for practicing healthcare providers regarding advances in patient care through prevention and early detection, diagnosis and treatment of the four cancers presented.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this program the participant should be able to

  • Interpret awareness about the burden of cancer and its societal impact
  • Incorporate novel therapies in the treatment of solid tumors
  • Employ surgical, radiation and systemic treatments and technologies
  • Incorporate appropriate sequences of surgical, radiation and chemotherapeutic interventions
  • Implement the optimal treatment approach when given patient scenarios
  • Evaluate and implement appropriate follow-up and survivorship strategies

 


 

Tailgate and Football Tickets

Each registered conference participant and one guest are invited to attend an exclusive tailgate hosted by UT Medical Center prior to the UT Volunteers vs. Florida Gators football game on Saturday, September 15, 2012.  Sign up for the tailgate during conference registration.

A limited number of complimentary tickets to the UT Volunteers vs. Florida Gators football game will be available to registered conference participants.  Tickets are limited to a maximum of two per registered participant.

Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.  Instructions on how to reserve complimentary tickets will be included in your conference registration confirmation e-mail.  Confirmation e-mail will be sent when conference registration is complete and payment for the conference is received.  Cancellation of attendance at the conference will result in forfeit of complimentary football tickets.

These social events occur after the adjournment of the conference on Saturday and are separate from the CME-certified activity.

 


 

Handouts

All participant handouts will be included on a USB drive.  Printed presentation slides will not be distributed onsite but will be available for download prior to the conference start date.  Watch your e-mail inbox as the conference date approaches.

The University of Tennessee College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

AMA

The University of Tennessee College of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 10.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

AAPA

American Academy of Physician Assistants accepts Category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award from organizations accredited by the ACCME.  The AAPA has complete reciprocity with the ACCME.

ACPE

The University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education.  Successful completion of Thursday night’s knowledge-based program (0064-9999-12-031-L04-P) will provide a statement for one (1) live contact hours credit (0.1 CEUs) and will be mailed within 3 weeks following the program.  Successful completion of Friday and Saturday’s knowledge-based program (0064-9999-12-032-L01-P) will provide a statement for nine and a half (9.5) live contact hours credit (0.95 CEUs) and will be mailed within 3 weeks following the program.  Successful completion includes attending all of the sessions, signing the attendance sheet, and completion of the program evaluation form.  ACPE Program Numbers:  0064-9999-12-031-L04-P, 0064-9999-12-032-L01-P

Grievance Policy

A participant, sponsor, faculty member or other individual wanting to file a grievance with respect to any aspect of a program sponsored or co-sponsored by the UTCOP may contact the Associate Dean for Continuing Education in writing. The grievance will be reviewed and a response will be returned within 45 days of receiving the written statement.  If not satisfied, an appeal to the Dean of the College of Pharmacy can be made for a second level of review. 

CEUs

Adhering to guidelines set by the American Medical Association, the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine will issue Certificates of Attendance and CEUs for non-physicians attending this educational activity.  This activity is designated for up to 1.05 CEUs by the University of Tennessee using the national standard that 1 hour of educational instruction is awarded .1 CEU.

Contact Hours

Professional associations may choose to convert CEUs to contact hours by allowing .1 CEU to equal 1 contact hour. 

Recertification

As an ACCME-approved provider, UT certifies the CME credit offered during this educational activity is acceptable by ANCC, AACN and NCCPA for recertification.
