James J. Neutens, PhD, FASHA
Dean
Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Dr. Neutens initially joined the University of Tennessee in 1984 and came to the Graduate School of Medicine in 1990 where he taught and administered the clerkship and residency programs in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1997 he was selected to serve as the Associate Dean and eventually the Executive Associate Dean for the Graduate School of Medicine. In 2005, he was appointed as the Interim Dean for the GSM. He was selected to fill the Dean's position in May 2007. Given his longstanding devotion to education, one of his principal goals is to advance the education mission of the UT Graduate School of Medicine while supporting excellence in research. Dean Neutens remains active at the national level in medical education.
Eddie S. Moore, MD
Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and Associate Dean for Medical Education
Dean Moore joined the faculty of the Graduate School of Medicine in 1988 as professor and chairman of the Department of Pediatrics. He was appointed Designated Institutional Official (DIO) in 2003 and Associate Dean in 2004. As the DIO, he has the authority and the responsibility for the oversight and administration of all graduate medical and dental residency training programs. As associate dean, he is responsible for developing position reports and policy proposals for the GSM and serves as UT Health Science Center PS/QI Clerkship Coordinator, Knoxville Campus. He is the principle GSM liaison to UT Hospital and University Health Systems (UHS). Dean Moore’s research publications have been principally in pediatric nephrology and developmental renal physiology.
Mitchell H. Goldman, MD
Professor and Chair of Surgery
Assistant Dean for Research
Dean Goldman will provide leadership and advocacy for core research programs, including molecular imaging and tracer development, simulation, anesthesiology, vascular and others, as well as research completed through the Graduate School of Medicine fellowship programs. He will also facilitate collaboration with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Oak Ridge National Laboratories; and other external research partners.
A native of Massachusetts, Dr. Goldman earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School after an undergraduate degree from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He joined the UT Graduate School of Medicine in 1985, and that same year, he performed the first kidney transplant at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. His ongoing research endeavors include those in the areas of vascular injury and intimal hyperplasia, as well as surgical education.
Amy Paganelli, CPA, MBA, CGFM
Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration
Dean Paganelli is responsible for all financial and budgeting aspects of the UT Graduate School of Medicine as well as administrative operations. She joined the graduate school in 1999 and most recently served as Director of the UT Graduate School of Medicine's Office of Business Administration. She was named Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration in 2007.
Paganelli earned the Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) designation in 1995 and the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation in 1989. She serves on the Board of Directors of the local chapter of the Association of Government Accountants.
William P. Metheny, PhD
Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical and Dental Education
Dr. Metheny works directly with Dr. Eddie Moore, Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education, to achieve our educational goals. Dr. Metheny has worked extensively with residents and medical students at Brown University Medical School. He is well published in the field of medical education and is nationally recognized for his efforts including contributions to professional organizations. Dr. Metheny’s faculty appointment is in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Metheny joined the Graduate School of Medicine in 2007.
