The Office of Business and Finance
The Office of Business anf Finance serves the faculty and staff for all Graduate School of Medicine business issues. This includes federal and state support for educational endeavors, all research grant activities as well as the daily business operations.
Deborah L. Brown

Ms. Brown is a native of Fairfax County, Virginia. She received her B.A. degree from East Tennessee State University majoring in accounting. She has more than thirty years of accounting experience in both private and public organizations. Prior to joining the Graduate School of Medicine in December 2007, Debbie worked as the financial analyst for the University of Tennessee, Office of Information Technology. Debbie works with the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration to administer financial and business components related to the Graduate School of Medicine.

Meredith York
Accounting Specialist 1

Meredith is originally from Asheville, NC but has lived in Knoxville since 1992. She holds a bachelor’s degree from UT in Business Administration with a concentration in Management and International Business. She completed this degree in 2006. Before coming to the Graduate School of Medicine Business Office, Meredith worked in the accounting office at Midwest Carriers.
Meredith performs the following duties in the business office:
- Travel Processing
- Invoices Paying
- Deposits and Refunds
- Pagers/Telecommunication
- Procurement Cards
- Timesheet Management
- Effort Certification Coordination
- Monthly Departmental Ledgers Distribution
- Equipment Tags
- Inventory
Kelly Fairweather
Student Assistant

Kelly is originally from Kingsport Tennessee. She is currently a senior at UT majoring in Communications. She will graduate in May 2010 and plans to pursue a Graduate degree in the fall of 2010. Prior to coming to the Graduate School of Medicine, Kelly was student assistant for UT’s Office of Information Technology. She is responsible for assisting Debbie and Meredith with their various office tasks.
Tammy Devine
Research Business Manager

Tammy is the GSM’s resource concerning adherence to granting agency policies and guidelines. Tammy works closely with the UT Health Science Center in Memphis pre/post award offices, UTK campus and UT Research Foundation concerning all contracts, technology transfers and other legal issues. She manages the database of grants including submission and reporting deadlines and report to PI's. Tammy assists departments with:
- Grant Procedures
- Pre-Award and Post-Award Issues
- Proposal Preparations
- Financial Management of Grants
Tammy also performs various Business Office functions such as contract and invoice processing.
